Hi, my name is Suzanne and I've been taking photographs for over 30 years. I am a dual national with British & Canadian citizenship and I consider myself very fortunate to have apprenticed with a professional, acclaimed portrait photographer in Toronto in the early 80's. I was exposed to exquisite photographic works from the family's own personal collection, this included photographic works of the original masters, Edward Steichen, Alfred Steiglitz, Andre Kertesz and Edward Weston. And the amazing women photographers, Gertrude Kasebier and Julia Margaret Cameron, just to name a few.
Developing and printing in the darkroom was magical to me and I sepia-toned all my prints and hand painted them with Marshall oils. In 1981 and 82, I won the Best Photography award at The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and this fueled my passion and confidence to continue on.
For me, it was a sad time when Photographers began to close their doors as the digital world took over. For many years, I struggled with the new technology, but then I discovered Photoshop which I fumbled with on my own, until finally I discovered a fantastic instructor, called Sebastian Michaels and his Photoartistry course and my passion returned to me once again, my eyes opened wide with the excitement of the endless artistic possibilities. I love animals,(especially cats, cows and sheep) architecture, people's faces. I search for beauty everywhere, even in the ruins and rubbish, pushing boundaries and relishing in the loveliness in the smallest of everyday things.
Hurricane Irma, (Sept. 6, 2017), imprinted herself on my soul, when she trespassed and ravaged our house, sucked up our belongings and the landscape. I've never been more terrified and sad for weeks on end and so, she of course, influenced my recent work.
My photography has been shown in The British Virgin Islands, Victoria, BC, Toronto and Stratford, Ontario Canada. All places I've been fortunate and happy to call home. After Irma, we moved to Cornwall UK a beautiful, wild and serene land where we hope to find peace and reconnect with family xo
